On-Line Tax Preparation Software Assistance for Low and Moderate Income Persons

You may be able to qualify to use free on-line tax preparation software and file your return on-line for free. The IRS has set up a partnership with a number of private tax software companies that is estimated to serve over 60 million Americans.

You should know that:

  • Services are available mid January 2008 (some offer help to 10/15/08);
  • You must meet certain eligibility requirements (mainly an adjusted income of $54,000 or less); and
  • Services are provided by private vendors who meet IRS standards.
