Maryland Earned Income Credits If your earned income (income from a job) falls below certain levels, you may qualify for a reduction in taxes and possibly a refund. Federal, Maryland and Montgomery County tax laws provide for earned income credits. What is the Maryland Earned Income Credit? Maryland offers its taxpayers a credit on their taxes depending upon certain factors, such as how much money you made during the past year and if you have children. The program is called the Earned Income Credit (EIC). The Maryland EIC is based on your federal EIC. Maryland will allow you a credit of up to 50% of your federal EIC. Which type am I eligible for?

Refundable EIC, you must meet the same requirements as above PLUS you must have a child or children whom you could claim as exemptions on your federal tax returns. How do I file for and receive a refund under the Maryland Earned Income Credit program? The Maryland tax form booklet contains a worksheet on which you can calculate the amount of any credit to which you are entitled. You can also file on-line.
